“Do you think I can make money with this idea?” has been the question that has made me cringe over the years. It personifies the unfortunate circumstance many business owners are in. Many entrepreneurs are in difficult situations, needing to make money to pay rent or the creditors who are hounding them. Desperation is the starting place, followed by jumping into business and making a lot of noise about it. Purpose Lately I have noticed many people tying causes to their businesses. Some businesses have ways to feed the homeless or help someone in need. I applaud them for taking their business one step towards where they should be. Purpose enables businesses to keep going, especially when tough times arise. One purpose overlooked by many is the one GOD created them for. GOD Provides the Vision Instead of starting with the answer, many entrepreneurs need to take a step back and start where JESUS started. Before any miracle, JESUS gave thanks. What are you thankful for? In, other words, have you thanked GOD for the gifts and talents HE gave you? Amazing things happen when you thank GOD for your gifts and talents, especially if you think the talent is small. GOD gave you this talent so you can reach many people. HE didn’t just want you to be seen by a few, rather HE gave you this talent to share with as many as you can handle. Start The Vision with Thanks Take a moment to write what you are thankful for, not just your talents. Write a list of thanksgiving that includes family, friends, people you admire, material blessings and your talents. Circle what stands out. Fight the temptation to rush through this exercise. Spend quiet time with the LORD to truly thank HIM for what HE has given you. GOD-Centered Methodology Lesson 1 GOD-given vision versus human. After facing the reality of becoming a business owner, ask yourself, “What do I own and what does GOD own?” This question is extremely important as it will set the direction of your business. For many micro-businesses, the owner thinks of an idea, looks at his or her skills, time, and personality to determine what type of business he or she should be in. The problem with this approach, while sound, is the limits the business owner puts in place by looking at himself/herself for all the answers and energy. Keep in mind: 1. GOD’s creativity is limitless. GOD is never limited by the vision you came up with. When GOD created the heaven and the earth, HE did it in a big way. Nothing was done on a small scale; however GOD was concerned about the small. Even the tiniest of things, like atoms in a human, exist on such a large scale, they can never be counted, only estimated. 2. GOD’s power is endless. GOD is all powerful and cannot be stopped. When HE gives you a vision, HE is telling you what HE is going to do, or already has done with HIS power. 3. GOD’s plan is incredible. GOD has a plan that includes your future. Since HE is not limited and is all powerful, HIS plan can and will be accomplished. HE has already seen into the future and made HIS plan for you and your business. Write out your list over the next week or so, listening to GOD along the way.
